The Greatest Prayer

You may have seen this sign or ones like it.  The message is clear, precise, and, above all, true.  Prayer should form part of our daily lives.  The words of formula prayers are very important, but there are many other forms of private prayer that include meditation and time spent alone with God.

For Catholics, the greatest prayer is Mass.  In the celebration of the Eucharist (Mass), we find the foundations of our faith in scripture.  These foundations carry the message of God to all of us.  The celebration of those words is found in the celebration of the Eucharist, a fulfillment of all that was celebrated and foretold in Scripture.  God is present to us in his words found in Scripture; God is present even more tangibly when we celebrate the Eucharist because the Eucharist includes the Word and the body and blood of Christ.  What a tremendous gift to all of us!!
